One glass of milk

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry.

He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water! She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it so slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?"

You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness."

He said ... "Then I thank you from my heart."

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Many years’ later that same young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.

Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.

He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won.

Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, and then wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words...:

Miser's Final Wish

There was a man who had worked all of his life and had saved all of his money. He was a real miser when it came to his money. He loved money more than just about anything, and just before he died, he said to his wife, "Now listen, when I die, I want you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. I wanna take my money to the afterlife."

So he got his wife to promise him with all her heart that when he died, she would put all the money in the casket with him.

Well, one day he died. He was stretched out in the casket, the wife was sitting there in black next to her closest friend. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said "Wait just a minute!" she had a shoe box with her, she came over with the box and placed it in the casket.

Then the undertakers locked the casket down and rolled it away.

Her friend said, "I hope you weren't crazy enough to put all that money in the casket."

She said, "Yes, I promised. I'm a good christian, I can't lie. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him."

"You mean to tell me you put every cent of his money in the casket with him?"

"I sure did, " said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my account and I wrote him a check."

Aussies Tempted By Indian League

Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath could be tempted to join Brian Lara in the breakaway Indian Cricket League - providing the money is right.

Lara signed on earlier this week but it appears there is still much work to do before the two Australian greats commit themselves.

"They haven't offered what we have asked for, so negotiations are proceeding," Warne's manager James Erskine told The Australian newspaper.

"Provided the terms and conditions are right, Shane Warne will play. But it's a long way off before we get the contract signed."

The new competition will see international stars team up with Indian players and local youngsters in a six-team league which will play Twenty20 matches across the country.

Former England captain Tony Greig, Indian greats Kapil Dev and Kieran More plus former Australia Test batsman Dean Jones are on the organising committee for the new league.

McGrath's manager, Warren Craig, said that he had spoken to officials regarding the new competition, and that he wouldn't rule out his client returning to play in the rebel league.

"They haven't given us any indication (regarding money)," he said.

"Now Lara has signed, things might start to hot up a bit. Things could start to move over the next week or so."

Value of a women...

A father came home and found his three children were outside, still in

their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers

strewn all around the front yard.



The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the

house and there was no sign of the dog.



Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had

been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.



In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon , and the family

room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.



In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on

the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on

the floor,a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand

was spread by the back door.



He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of

clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that

something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of

water as



it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found

wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor.



Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared

over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his

wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel.



She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at

her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"



She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home

from work and you ask me what in the world did I do today?"



"Yes," was his incredulous reply.



She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."
